It was reported in December of last year that Netflix was actively engaged in incorporating HEVC compression that would enable it to stream 4K content. Netflix has made true on its claims, as it is now offering House of Cards and some nature documentaries in 4K. While the content is available immediately for viewing, users who want to view it will have to do so using a 2014 4K television that features a built-in H.265/HEVC decoder. Consumers who own any other 4K television, such as a model from 2013 that does not feature an H.265/HEVC decoder, will not be able to view the 4K content now being offered by Netflix.
