Techland's Hellraid isn't even out yet, but yesterday, the developer announced an iOS spin-off entitled Hellraid: The Escape. Even though the announcement did seem legit, naturally with it being April Fools' Day and all, I decided to play it safe and not report it, despite reassurances on Facebook that the project was indeed real. Just a word of advice for companies in the future: if you have something official to announce, don't do so on April 1, just wait an extra day! Earlier today, realizing there was still skepticism, Techland released a Vine video showing the game running on an iPad Air:
So what is Hellraid: The Escape? It's an "action-adventure mobile game set in the universe of the upcoming dark fantasy game Hellraid [being] developed by Shortbreak Studios in cooperation with Techland." A sorcerer has trapped your soul in a magical prison guarded by demonic creatures and you must escape and learn who you are and why you were imprisoned. The game features "a multitude of puzzles [...] designed to take full advantage of the unique capabilities of Apple devices." The official announcement trailer provides a taste of what we can expect (as do the screenshots below):
Hellraid: The Escape will be released as a universal app in the App Store on May 15, 2014, for $2.99 / €2,49, with the promise of free updates and "no in-app purchases or pay-to-win elements." There was no additional information released on the main Hellraid game for PC and consoles, other than Techland "still working hard" on it.
