Square Enix Lays Off 27 People at Thief Developer Eidos Montreal
Layoffs are unfortunately an inevitable part of the gaming industry following a major release. With Thief launching last week, that inevitability has struck developer Eidos Montreal. Publisher Square Enix confirmed the layoffs of 27 people today to IGN, explaining that "unfortunately it's something that every major studio has to do in order to ensure you have the right set up for current and future projects." Square Enix is trying to re-locate as many of those people as it can within its other studios, but has also reached out to outside studios in Montreal to arrange a career day.
Reviews for Thief were mixed, but generally favorable.
