Carmageddon: Reincarnation Arriving March 27 on Steam Early Access
Back in May 2012, developer Stainless Games raised over $600,000 USD to bring Carmageddon: Reincarnation to fruition, easily surpassing the original $400,000 goal. Now, nearly two years later, the sequel to the original "points for pedestrians" vehicular combat game is just about ready – Carmageddon: Reincarnation will arrive on March 27, 2014 as a Steam Early Access title. If you're a Kickstarter backer, you'll actually be able to start playing two weeks earlier.
The original Carmageddon came out way back in 1997 as a DOS game before being ported to Windows and Mac the same year. Aside from the successful Kickstarter campaign proving that fans want to see the franchise return, Stainless Games resurrected the original title for mobile devices (iOS in Oct 2012, Android in May 2013) and reports "over 3 million copies [...] in the year since it was launched." So it certainly seems like the right time to bring the franchise back.
Along with the announcement of the Early Access release date, Stainless Games also published a "Damage Tech" video, which shows just how advanced technology has become in the seventeen years since the first game.
