Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark Announced at New York Toy Fair Preview Event
While Amazon UK leaked the game a few days ago, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark was officially announced today during Hasbro's preview event for the New York Toy Fair. According to Examiner, an Activision representative said Rise of the Dark Spark will run alongside the upcoming film, Age of Extinction, and will be "marrying two different universes, the Transformers Cybertron universe and the Michael Bay Transformers universe," featuring characters from both. One such character that was mentioned is Age of Extinction's Grimlock.
The game will feature both a single player campaign and multiplayer. In single player, players will be able to play as both the Autobots and Decepticons. Extinction mode is the multiplayer portion of the game and features "horde-based combat with over 40 playable characters." Character progression persists across both game modes, meaning the ranks and unlocks you gain in one mode can be used in the other.
Rise of the Dark Spark is being developed by Loadout developer Edge of Reality, instead of High Moon Studios, the developer for the previous two Transformers games. It's set for release some time this year for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. There will also be a 3DS version developed by Way Forward, but that will be a strategy RPG instead.
