IBM to Develop Chips that can Self Destruct
IBM was awarded a government contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to create "a device that when triggered, could degrade partially or completely into its surroundings." DARPA is likely interested in this type of technology to help prevent assets that may be lost or abandoned in hostile environments from being compromised or studied. The project is being referred to as Vanishing Programmable Resources and will use "glass shattering techniques that could ultimately turn a functioning silicon chip into an unusable powder."
