The Last of Us Dominates the 17th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards

The 17th Annual D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Awards were last night and the big winner was clearly Naughty Dog's The Last of Us, taking home a whopping ten out of the twenty-four awards, including Game of the Year. The only other games that took home multiple awards were Bioshock Infinite and Plants vs. Zombies 2, which managed two apiece.

For those unfamiliar with the D.I.C.E. Awards, they're the culmination of the annual two-day D.I.C.E. Summit, held by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, with the purpose of promoting and advancing "the worldwide interactive entertainment community." This year's awards show was hosted by Felicia Day and Freddie Wong, with the full list of winners below:

  • Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction: The Last of Us
  • Outstanding Achievement in Animation: The Last of Us
  • Outstanding Character Performance: The Last of Us (Ellie)
  • Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition: Bioshock Infinite
  • Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design: The Last of Us
  • Outstanding Achievement in Story: The Last of Us
  • Outstanding Achievement in Gameplay Engineering: Grand Theft Auto V
  • Outstanding Achievement in Visual Engineering: The Last of Us
  • Action Game of the Year: Bioshock Infinite
  • Adventure Game of the Year: The Last of Us
  • Fighting Game of the Year: Injustice: Gods Among Us
  • Role Playing/Massively Multiplayer Game of the Year: Diablo III
  • Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year: XCOM: Enemy Within
  • Casual Game of the Year: Plants VS Zombies 2
  • Family Game of the Year: Super Mario 3D World
  • Racing Game of the Year: Forza Motorsport 5
  • Sports Game of the Year: FIFA 14
  • Downloadable Game of the Year: Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons
  • Handheld Game of the Year: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
  • Mobile Game of the Year: Plants VS Zombies 2
  • Online Game of the Year: World of Tanks
  • Outstanding Innovation in Gaming: The Last of Us
  • Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction: The Last of Us
  • Game of the Year: The Last of Us

In addition, "Rockstar Games' Leslie Benzies, Dan Houser and Sam Houser were inducted as the 18th, 19th and 20th members of the AIAS Hall of Fame," while Eugene Jarvis was honored as the sixth Pioneer Award recipient.
