When free-to-play mech combat game HAWKEN entered open beta at the end of 2012, the only way to access the game was through its launcher, acquired from the official site. As developer Adhesive Games gets ready for the full launch later this month, the studio will also be moving HAWKEN over to Steam. "From this point forward, a Steam account will be required to play HAWKEN. HAWKEN will no longer be playable using the existing launcher and the game will only be accessible through Steam."
Adhesive has disabled new account creation until the full release later this month in order to make the transition to Steam easier. Current pilots will be sent Steam keys over the next seven days so they can get into the game prior to the full release, and no progress will be lost. Meteor Credits, the in-game credits purchased with real money, will only be available using Steam Wallet from now on.
Moving HAWKEN over to the most popular digital platform will surely increase visibility, so it definitely seems like a great strategic move.
