PC Gaming on the Upswing
A report from DFC Intelligence indicates that PC game playing rose in 2013 compared to 2012, "despite the fact that few major titles were released in 2013." The increase was lead by strong performances from League of Legends and Dota 2, the first and second game on the list, respectively. Dota 2 had the largest increase in play from the last year, a move that can likely be attributed to the game exiting beta and receiving an official release. The two games helped to put the Massively Online Battle Arena, MOBA, genre at the head of the PC gaming class, ahead of long established genres like first person shooters and MMORPGs. DFC analyst Jeremy Miller is very bullish on PC gaming going forward, stating "the pipeline of big new titles is looking very strong and core gamers seem to be willing to spend more money than ever."
