Worldwide Tablet Market Continues To Grow
Preliminary data from the International Data Corporation, or IDC, notes that tablet shipment worldwide have grown. In the last quarter of 2013, shipments of tablets grew to 76.9 million units and represent a 62.4 percent growth over the third quarter of the same year. Taking into considerations tablet shipments for all of 2013, 217.1 million units were sold. This represents a year-over-year growth rate of 50.6 percent when compared to the 144.2 million tablets shipped in 2012. Despite the increase in tablet shipments over the course of the last year, the rates are down overall compared with the rates of the same quarter one year ago. This information indicates a significant slowing of the tablet market, and may affect all manufacturers in the coming years.
Apple shipped the most tablets in the fourth quarter of 2013 with 26 million units worldwide, followed by Samsung, Amazon, Asus, and Lenovo.
