Evernote informed the public roughly a year ago that it would be undergoing a major redesign of its synchronization process. That upgrade is now complete, and with it comes a major increase in the time it takes to sync files. Evernote stated that the upgrade makes syncing files about four times faster than before, and while users of smaller accounts may not see a notable increase in speed, users with larger accounts will. In order to make synchronization faster, Evernote replaced its hard disk drives with solid state drives and also improved indexing by using a master table. Additionally, the company has gone from utilizing multiple servers to over 700.
Evernote is planning future upgrades that will support the improved synchronization speed, including updated APIs, developer guidelines, and all Evernote applications.
