Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Gameplay Shows Off its Brutality
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is an open-world, action RPG set in Tolkien's Middle-earth, taking place between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings with a separate, non-canon story. Players control Talion, a ranger who dies and is somehow resurrected and united with a wraith, granting him special wraith abilities. While Tolkien fans may raise an eyebrow at the premise, after the first official gameplay video was revealed last week, most concerns should be eased.
Shadow of Mordor clearly borrows from the Assassin's Creed and Batman Arkham games. It has the exploration and brutal killing moves of Assassin's Creed, but thankfully nixes that game's sub-par battle system for the graceful battle system of the Batman Arkham series.
Shadow of Mordor is planned for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, but unfortunately just has the very vague "2014" release date at this time.
