Io-Interactive Provides First Details of Next AAA Hitman Game
While Square Enix Montreal is working on smartphone and tablet versions of the Hitman series, Io Interactive's sole focus has been developing the sixth AAA Hitman game for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Up until now, very little was known about as-yet-unnamed Hitman 6, but in an "open letter to Hitman fans", Io-Interactive spilled the game's first details.
Hitman 6 will have you playing as "a globetrotting Agent 47 at the prime of his career" with the support of long-term handler Diana Burnwood. Using Io-Interactive's proprietary Glacier 2 engine (introduced with Hitman: Absolution), the game will feature large, open, checkpoint-free, non-linear level design – something that is sure to be welcomed by veteran Hitman fans that were somewhat disappointed with Absolution's rather linear, checkpoint-riddled approach. In fact, Hitman 6 will feature the largest levels ever built for a Hitman game.
In addition, Contracts Mode will make its return, allowing players to create challenges and share them with friends and strangers alike. In addition, what Io-Interactive refers to simply as "47's magic pockets" is now gone. Presumably that means a more realistic approach to how much equipment Agent 47 can carry with him on any given mission.
There is still no estimated release date for Hitman 6, nor a proper name, but Io-Interactive promises to share "much, much more" information in the coming months.
