Oracle and LSI have announced that LSI Nytro flash accelerator cards have been chosen as the PCIe flash acceleration technology in the next generation Oracle Exadata 4 database machine. Oracle will use LSI Dynamic Logical Capacity (DLC) technology to help extend the physical flash capacity of the system to help increase performance while reducing total cost of ownership. The LSI Nytro solution was chosen after an extensive testing and qualification period where the cards were shown to "deliver excellent performance, endurance and reliability in real-world production environments and applications ranging from data warehousing to online transaction processing to mixed workloads." Senior VP for Exadata systems Juan Loaiza said, "Flash-based storage is a key element of Exadata, and LSI Nytro flash accelerator cards deliver the performance and reliability that Oracle demands for Exadata. The expanded flash capacity enabled by DLC technology further enhances cost-effectiveness, raising the value we’re able to deliver customers."
