In a recent deal reportedly worth $15 million, Facebook has purchased Branch and Potluck. Branch is a link-sharing service that allows users to grab links from Internet sources, talk about them with individuals through email or Twitter, and then share the conversation or link with others. Facebook is hoping that the acquisition of Branch will allow Facebook users to connect to their interests in a more simplified fashion. Potluck, created by the same team surrounding Branch, focuses on short summaries of news that are delivered directly to an iPhone. The application not only provides news in a short and concise card style format, it also allows users to share the news with friends. Facebook has acquired Potluck in hopes of implementing more actual news within the Facebook News Feed.
Josh Miller, the CEO of Branch, announced that the group that currently works on Branch will remain in New York and form a new Facebook Conversations team.
