In a deal originally announced Monday, Pinterest has purchased and acquired VisualGraph, a small company which built image recognition and visual search tools. The deal will enable Pinterest to use the technology previously provided by VisualGraph to better understand what items people are pinning. David Liu and Kevin Jing, the founders and only two employees of VisualGraph, will now be working with the engineering team at Pinterest. More specifically, Jing will be leading the newly announced Pinterest visual discovery team and will seek new ways to identify what items Pinterest users are avid about and how they find them through imagery.

No information was provided by Pinterest on the acquisition of VisualGraph, and VisualGraph is now unavailable to users due to the purchase.
