Recently, reports surfaced of the NSA intercepting and modifying computer parts and accessories. Within this report, filed by German magazine Der Spiegel, was a catalog of NSA information that also referenced to a secret program called DROPOUTJEEP. This program allowed the NSA to infiltrate Apple iPhone devices to receive contacts, geolocation data, SMS messages, voicemails, and more. Apple has responded to claims about the program and has stated that it was unaware of the DROPOUTJEEP program and that it has never worked with the NSA to create a backdoor within any of its products. The leaked documents stated that the program was able to work 100 percent of the time when used, provided that DROPOUTJEEP was installed on the iPhone. It is unknown to whether recent iOS versions are affected, since the NSA's Access Network Technology unit, or ANT, drafted the catalog in 2008.
