Samsung has announced its next generation memory technology for mobile devices, LPDDR4 RAM. The low power modules feature a 40% improvement over the previous generation LPDDR3 memory and will allow Samsung to pack more memory into the same amount of space. Up to 4GB of RAM will now reside where only 2GB was previously capable. It is unclear what mobile devices will be able to do with the added memory as the majority of memory bandwidth is currently dedicated to high display resolutions and higher display resolutions offer diminishing returns when considering power requirements.
