Android Integration Coming to Audi Automobiles
Technology giant Google and automaker Audi are partnering to deliver in-car Android based infotainment systems. Android powered dashboard entertainment systems could provide many of the same features that the mobile Operating System has, such as Android specific applications, navigation, and other services. These features would all be be able to be accessed without needing an Android powered smartphone. An unnamed source from the Wall Street Journal has provided this information, but with Audi holding a press conference on January 7, 2014, it seems likely that the partnership is a reality. Additionally, NVIDIA is said to be involved within the partnership and more companies having involvement could possibly be announced at CES next week. Kia is already one automaker that uses Android to power an infotainment system within one of their vehicles. With Audi coming into play, more manufacturers are likely to join following the announcement by the luxury automaker.
