Japanese telecom company SoftBank, which currently owns Sprint, is reportedly looking to purchase a majority of T-Mobile shares. The deal would need legislative approval from entities like the Department of Justice and the FCC, but if completed, only three major mobile carries would exist within the United States. SoftBank is willing, according to reports, to purchase the T-Mobile shares for about $19 billion and will do so under Sprint who will acquire the United States based carrier. If the deal is approved and SoftBank does purchase T-Mobile, Sprint would be competing heavily with AT&T and Verizon in terms of customer base as well as spectrum availability.
