Mobile analyst Chetan Sharma has recently released a study which shows that cellphone users have increased their data consumption by almost double within this year. Last year the average user consumed 690MB of data per month, and this year that number has grown to 1.2GB. Chetan Sharma is contributing the rise in data to not only smartphones that are able to handle larger pictures, videos and applications, but also to 4G LTE networks that continue to gain ground. Verizon and AT&T are likely benefiting from the rise in mobile data use, since both carriers offer tiered data plans for their customers. Sprint and T-Mobile currently offer unlimited plans, and if therate of mobile data use continues to rise, the carriers could utilize the data plans heavily in their favor with proper marketing.
