Television set-top boxes are going to become 10 to 45 percent more energy efficient due to a new agreement recently made. The agreement was made between many entities to include the U.S. Department of Energy, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, the Appliance Standard Awareness Project, the Consumer Electronics Association and the National Cable and Telecommunications Association. No new regulations will need to be incorporated, as the implementation of additional energy efficiency will be completely voluntary. Provides such as Comcast, Dish Network and Verizon are already onboard with the new agreement. The energy efficiency improvement of set-top boxes will reportedly save $1 billion in energy costs annually for over 90 million homes located throughout the United States.
