Mobile Use of Spotify Rises After Launch of Free Streaming App
When originally released for mobile platforms within the United States, Spotify could only be accessed by premium subscription members. In an attempt to compete with other casual music listening applications, such as Pandora, Spotify has recently released its service on mobile platforms for free. Due to this business decision, the use for Spotify on mobile devices has skyrocketed, increasing by four times in the past week alone. Even though users of the free version Spotify are unable to choose what artists or songs to play, more users are expected to flock towards the music service by using its ad-supported version. The free Spotify application shuffles music to listeners by shuffling their personal playlists, or selecting random music for them.
