Yesterday it was reported that Verizon has plans to publish a transparency report concerning government inquires about customer data. Although AT&T was initially reluctant to inform customers about governmental requests of customer information, and was even aggressive towards shareholders that wanted the same level of accountability, the wireless company seems to have altered its view on the matter. The news comes shortly after the Verizon announcement. Just as Verizon is set to do with its transparency report, AT&T will separate law enforcement requests by type, such as court orders. The AT&T transparency report is due to be released in early 2014 and will encompass data throughout 2013. AT&T plans to publish its transparency reports semi-annually, mirroring the wireless company’s competitors in terms of transparency reports.
