As focus around the world continues to shift into the legal requirements of governments to obtain customer data, Verizon has ensured customers and shareholders that it will be filing its first transparency report. The report, which is likely due in the early part of next year, will focus on how many requests are made by law enforcement in regards to obtaining customer information. Verizon’s report will additionally break down the requests into categories such as court orders, warrants, and even subpoenas. Randal Milch, general counsel and executive vice president for public policy at Verizon, noted that the company’s intent is to keep customers informed about what government requests it receives and how it responds to those requests. Verizon did note, however, that it is unable to disclose any information requests from government agencies that correspond to national security matters.
