There has been speculation that Microsoft was attempting to find a replacement for its current chief executive officer, Steven A. Ballmer, by the end of this year. In a recent post provided by John W. Thompson however, a Microsoft board member and chairman of the committee that is leading the search for a new chief executive, the technology company will probably not complete its search until early next year. Thompson further states that even though the selection will not be completed until that timeframe, the board is moving along well. According to Thompson, over 100 candidates for the position have been identified and out of those about 20 individuals are being intensely focused on for selection.
