Wireless Broadband Network to be Offered by Sprint and Dish Network
Both Sprint and Dish Network have announced their plans to work together to develop and implement a fixed wireless broadband system for home consumers. The target for this system is mainly individuals whom either do not have access to broadband Internet or are accessing broadband that is insufficient for their needs. Dish Network will provide the installation of hardware, where either an outdoor rugged antenna or an indoor solution will be supplied. The fixed wireless broadband system will then make use of Sprint’s 4G TDD-LTE signal, which utilizes the 2.5GHz spectrum, to provide home Internet. Sprint and Dish Network plan to trial the system within Corpus Christi, Texas, during the middle of 2014. If the trial period is a success, both entities intend to expand the wireless Internet offering into more markets.
