It's true, Valve really does know how to count to three; just it's probably not what you've been hoping for. During Linuxcon earlier this week, Valve's Gabe Newell spoke glowingly of Linux (and with good reason) and also hinted at a possible Steam Box announcement. Now, a new teaser has appeared on Steam that seems to further solidify those plans, as Valve has been working on something to "connect the dots for customers who want Steam in the living-room." Last year brought us Big Picture Mode to more easily game on televisions and with game controllers, and it looks like Valve is ready to go one step further.
A countdown clock on the site will expire at 10am Pacific time on Monday, September 23, under the first of three circles. That first circle has a single dot inside, the second has a dot in between two brackets (possibly a couch?), and then two dots joined by a plus sign in the third. So it looks like we'll be getting three announcements next week. There's also an image of a game controller laying on the floor near a cat, because why not?
Valve apparently wants to start a beta test program for whatever the Monday announcement will be, since it mentions a desire to add us to the "design process." So as the weekend begins, the speculation about a Steam Box can, too.
