Corsair Vengeance Memory Announced Clocked at 3000MHz

Corsair have today announced a new series of low profile 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance DDR3 memory kits. Dubbed 'Corsair Vengeance Extreme', the kits are fitted with red heat spreaders, and come bundled with a Kingpin cooler designed for LN2 overclockers to squeeze the maximum performance possible out of the memory. To achieve the 3000MHz rated frequency, however, the kits must be used with a Z77 motherboard along with a 3rd Generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor with a memory controller capable of handling 3000MHz speeds.

The kits are hand-screened by Corsair engineers before they are sold, with less than 1 in 50 memory modules passing the test. They are aimed at the enthusiast and overclocking markets, and are priced at $749.99 per 2x4GB kit, and will be exclusive to Corsair's official site.

Is there even any point to having memory that fast? I thought timings was more important anyways.

Speed > timings.
