Windows Phone 7.8 to Arrive January 31
Following the release of the Windows Phone 8 SDK two days ago, Microsoft is expected to roll out the update to end users by the end of this month. The first announcement was made by the Columbian version of Microsoft's Facebook page, however the update will be released on a carrier-by-carrier basis due to the software verification process performed by carriers. Some carriers, however, will be rolling out the update alongside the official release, such as the UK wireless carrier O2.
The update will be made available for many existing Windows Phone 7.X users through Microsoft's Zune software. Advantages of Windows Phone 7.8 over previous versions include access to the resizable live tiles on the home screen, updates to Bluetooth, and a number of aesthetic improvements. Unfortunately, the update will not bring access to all of the features included in Windows Phone 8 such as support for multitasking, microSD cards, and encryption.
