The fruits of the Microsoft acquisition of Skype are about to be seen, as the company has announced plans to shut down the Windows Messenger service in favor of Skype. An e-mail was sent out to Messenger users stating that the service will be shut down on March 15. Microsoft is encouraging users to begin making the transition to Skype to familiarize themselves with the application and has added an upgrade button to Messenger that will uninstall it and install Skype.
