In 2011 Seagate released its first wireless storage device to satisfy the needs of people using smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices with limited data storage. Now the company has announced the latest version of its Seagate Wireless Plus mobile storage technology which can stream data to as many as eight devices.
The device itself features a 1 TB hard drive and its own wireless network, so your mobile devices connect directly to it, instead of using an Internet connection. Powering the radio and the drive is a battery capable of lasting 10 hours, which is comparable to the battery life of many tablets and smartphones. Its compatibility is not limited to just Android and iOS devices though, as it can connect to other devices using Apple Airplay, DLNA, or an app designed specifically for Samsung devices. For a physical connection, the drive comes with a USB 3 adapter to quickly add content for later access.
The suggested retail price for the Seagate Wireless Plus mobile storage is $199.99 and is already available.
