Google and car manufacturer Kia have announced a partnership to bring Google Maps into cars this year, starting with the 2014 Sorento. Kia will upgrade its UVO system with Maps and even Places to give drivers all the information they need in a familiar format. There's even a UVO smartphone app to allow drivers to send points of interest or destinations directly to their car, but just be sure to do that before you leave the house or office. Once you're in the car, Maps can help get you where you need and Places can show you everything nearby, like car dealerships (including the one you're at), restaurants, dentists, and more. Kia's existing music management and hands-free features are still handled by the UVO system, plus there's an improved voice recognition function.
The 2014 Kia Sorento is expected to arrive in the first quarter of this year, with other models receiving the Google upgrade as the 2014 models roll out. The UVO smartphone app should arrive in the second quarter of the year and will work on both Android and iOS.
