Netflix's ISP Rankings Show Google Fiber as the Fastest in America
Surprisingly, one of the best ways to determine the quality of a particular Internet Service Provider is going to be Netflix's ISP rankings. Starting today, the movie and TV show streaming and rental service will compile a list of the best performance across all of its streams. Over 30 million members stream more than one billion hours of content a month, so the company can compile a fairly accurate view of an ISP. So without further ado, the top performer is Google Fiber, which Netflix says is the "most consistently fast ISP in America." Not a huge surprise considering Google Fiber can top out at 1Gbps down, and should make nearly everyone in the country jealous of the residents of Kansas City, Kansas and Missouri.
As for the other ISPs, cable providers typically perform better than DSL (to be expected), while a hybrid fiber-DSL service like AT&T U-Verse pales in comparison to the all-fiber Verizon FiOS. Verizon mobile has also jumped ahead of AT&T mobile, while Charter dropped two spots to tie with Comcast. You can check out the full rankings below to see where your ISP sits, and potentially consider which one to switch to if there is availability in your area.
