Kik Reaches 30 Million Users, Adds Photo and Video Sharing

Multiplatform messaging app Kik was released back in 2010 by Ted Livingston, a 25-year-old mobile developer from Ontario state. The number of users grew exponentially, hitting the two million registered users mark just 22 days after the app's initial release, and now two years later, the 30 million mark with 100,000 new users signing up every day. Livingston now runs a company employing 28 people and they haven't been sitting around; the messaging app is frequently updated with new features and bug fixes.

Today an update has been rolled out to enable users to share videos, images, and even sketches you draw right inside Kik. This is all an attempt to make Kik stand out even more from competitors such as iMessage, Facebook Messenger, and BlackBerry Messenger. RIM, the developer of BlackBerry Messenger, currently has a lawsuit against Kik after the app's initial launch to the firm's BlackBerry OS. Despite the continued development, if Kik loses the lawsuit to RIM it would likely place Livingston in a very difficult position, which may lead to development of the app being stopped.
