This week, Toshiba announced that it is increasing the storage capacity of its enterprise line of hard drives. There will be four new additions to Toshiba's MG series: two SATA models - MG03ACA400, MG03ACA400Y - and two SAS models - MG03SCA400, MG03SCP400. All four 4TB drives have a 7200 RPM spindle speed, 64 MB of cache, up to 165 MB/s sustained transfer rate, and an average latency of 4.17 ms. The SATA based MG03ACA400Y supports self-encryption and cryptographic-erase using the more recent T13 SANITIZE and the older T13 ATA Security Erase Protocol. The SAS MG03SCP400 is a self-encrypting model, which supports both the T10 SANITIZE crypto-erase feature and the Trusted Computing Group Enterprice Security Sub-Classification protocols. All MG Series drives are protected by Toshiba's five-year warranty. Sample shipments are to start in December, followed by larger shipments in early 2013. Toshiba has not yet announced pricing information.
