Well, this is certainly interesting news for AMD and could be a sign of tough times. A new report says AMD is planning to sell its Austin, Texas, location for between $150 and $200 million. The deal is expected to go through in the second quarter of next year, which AMD would then lease back the plant in order to gain even more money for its CPU business. Both Intel and AMD have been struggling of late, but AMD seems to be a little more desperate. The company recently cut some of its workforce and is planning a smaller focus on the desktop PC crowd, so selling and leasing its Austin location makes sense from that standpoint. An AMD representative did say the company sold and leased back its Sunnyvale, California, headquarters and a building near Toronto, Ontario (potentially the Markham location), in the past. Keep it tuned for further news from AMD.
