If this bit of news pans out, it would just be another strike against the new Maps app in Apple iOS 6. According to reports, Richard Williamson, head of the iOS 6 Maps team, has been fired by Apple Senior Vice President Eddy Cue. Cue took over in October as part of that executive shakeup that saw the heads of the iOS and retail teams leave. He is also apparently talking with TomTom, one of the GPS and mapping leaders, to help fix the landmark and navigation data it shares with Apple's Maps app. Hopefully that means directions and locations will all be accurate in an updated version of the app, which has been met with plenty of criticism since its launch. Cue needs to regain confidence in the app, and it looks like removing more people responsible for its lackluster performance is a step in the right direction. Stay tuned for confirmation of the ouster and for any new developments from Cupertino.
