Activision's Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 hits record sales with over $500 million made within the first 24 hours of release. This stomps the $400 million and $360 million set by previous titles like Modern Warfare 3 and the first Black Ops. That makes the release the largest video game launch of the year, which is a title Call Of Duty games have claimed for now four years in a row. In comparison to blockbuster films, video game franchises, such as Halo and Call Of Duty, are breaking milestones in the entertainment industry. The movie The Dark Knight Rises netted roughly $160 million in the opening weekend, which pales in comparison to the half billion made by Black Ops 2.
Activision predicts Black Ops 2 will become the best-selling game of all time, which Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter agrees is possible. The original Black Ops currently holds that record with 25 million copies sold worldwide.
