As tablets and mobile phones become more graphically powerful, the demand for accurate benchmarking software becomes even more necessary. Futuremark seems to have realized this and have thus announced its upcoming 3DMark which will support iOS, Android, Windows RT, along with your PC's standard Windows OS. Cross-platform will be enabled to allow a fluid comparison between all your devices, be it on a smartphone, tablet or your CrossFire/SLI setup. Mobiles and entry level rigs will be running a variation of the Ice Storm test (featured in the video below) which could be DirectX 9-based, while PCs can go further with 3DMark DirectX 10 tests and those with more advanced hardware can run a DirectX 11 test for good measure. For the PC purist, it is comforting to know that Futuremark won't hold back on the DX11 features, what with support for the latest advanced real-time rendering techniques and effects right out of the box. If Futuremark gets its app store application approved soon, expect the cross-platform 3DMark to be released before 2012 ends.
