Research In Motion (RIM), known for the BlackBerry smartphone, announced today the release date of its newest mobile operating system, BlackBerry 10. Set for a January 30, 2013 release, the BlackBerry 10 mobile operating system has been the accumulation of over a years work to rebuild RIM's foothold in the mobile smartphone market after fierce competition from Apple's iOS and Google's Android platforms. RIM says it will be releasing two new smartphones in January packing the new BlackBerry 10 OS. Also recently announced, BlackBerry 10 has received the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 certification, which is the standard followed by US military and defense government agencies as well as private enterprises. However, there have been strong criticisms from analysts reputing the lukewarm response the new OS will most likely receive due to the brand's long absence from the market.
