AMD Readying 'Tahiti LE' Radeon HD 7890
It looks like AMD will be refreshing the Radeon HD 7800 series with a "Tahiti" based core from the Radeon HD 7900 series, which is reportedly going to be given the designation as the "HD 7890 Tahiti LE". Though AMD is keeping the lid closed on the clock speeds and memory configurations, it is reportedly looking to fill the gap between NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 660 and GTX 660 Ti with performance rumored to be 15% faster than the GTX 660. NVIDIA made a similar move in the past when it released the GTX 560 Ti 448 Cores edition that took the higher end GF110 silicon and applied it to the lower, mid-ranged SKU, which at the time was only used by the GF114 core. Release dates for the SKU are rumored to start shipping in mid-November with AMD looking to aim for a holiday shopping season debut.
