ARM-Powered AMD Server Expected on Monday
AMD is going to hold a press conference on Monday in San Francisco where it's expected to unveil a new 64-bit ARM-powered SeaMicro server. AMD CEO Rory Read is said to be at the event, with ARM CEO Warren East invited as a "special guest." Former SeaMicro CEO Andrew Feldman is also expected to attend, who became general manager of the Data Center Server Solutions group after AMD acquired SeaMicro earlier this year. All of those names point to an ARM-powered SeaMicro server, which should be extremely power efficient if true. Neither AMD or ARM have confirmed the details of the press conference, but Feldman has long believed the SeaMicro platform can work other processors besides Intel Atom and Xeon ones. ARM has yet to announce a 64-bit chip, but it's expected to do so at TechCon next week. Maybe it'll kick things off a little early with the 64-bit chip in a SeaMicro server.
