Asus makes a bid to claim the hearts of more mobile PC gamers with its compact new 14″ G series gaming notebook, the G46VW.  The G46 is noticeably more slimmer than its heftier G series siblings, but is designed to be just as performance-oriented. Heat is dissipated with a dual-cooling setup, with the CPU and GPU each getting their own fans. Depending on the budget, the G46 can be outfitted with either an Intel Core i5-3210M or Core i7-3610QM for processing duties, while a 2GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M GPU will be the primary graphics workhorse with an Intel IGP handling less intensive visual chores. There's room for 1x mSATA SSD slot and 1x 2.5″ HDD/Hybrid HDD for storage and up to 16GB DDR3 1,600MHz RAM, but an optical drive isn't available due to the smaller form factor, though a USB drive can also be used. The 2.5kg G46VW also has 3D display support via HDMI, and can be shipped with Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro. Asus is releasing the svelte new machine to the US market, but given the G46VW's appeal to gamers wanting a petite but powerful notebook, a similar version could also make its way internationally.

Good to see gaming laptops ditching HDD drives and moving towards 2.5" drives. Hybrid drives have been around for a while, so it's a good idea to make the move. Looking forward to the touchscreen version, hope it comes out soon. Anyway ROG produces solid laptops with an emphasis on an effective cooling system.
