AMD to Drop Prices for FM1 Chips
AMD has recently introduced its new line of A-Series APUs, the FM2. These newer, more powerful chips feature a ground up redesign of the previous generation APU. The new chip's CPU and GPU performance are both greatly increased over the previous generation, double the performance per watt, and can last up to 12 hours on battery on mobile devices. When a new chip hits the market, price cuts for existing chips follow. The AMD FM1 A4-3300 will be dropped to $30, from its current price of $46, and the slightly faster A4-3400 will be dropped to $35, from $48. The FM2 A4-5300, now priced at $53, will be reduced to $30 by next quarter. These more affordable chips will be particularly enticing to system builders, as they represent significant savings.
