Amazon Rumored to be Interested in OMAP Processor Line
Amazon is rumored to be interested in acquiring the OMAP processor line from Texas Instruments, which no longer sees the mobile market as promising as it once did. The OMAP chips are ARM based and are used in devices such as the Galaxy Nexus and Kindle Fire HD. This purchase could open a new revenue stream as well as take out the need for development of a processor for a potential Kindle smartphone. Owning the CPU manufacturing could also help to cut down on costs for Amazon, which currently sells hardware at cost in hopes of making up the difference in content sales.
