The Mechromancer DLC for Borderlands 2 was originally scheduled to arrive next Tuesday, but Gearbox decided to move it up to release a couple of days ago. At the time there was no solid mention of why the fifth character class was released early, but now we know. Gearbox officially unveiled a new DLC for Borderlands 2 called Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty. This pirate-centric content features an expansive desert, a shanty town called Oasis, and Captain Scarlett herself. According to Gearbox president Randy Pitchford: "You can sense the pirate theme across the landscape, even though there's no water. It's all dried up. It feels more like Tatooine than an ocean. These bandits have really embraced the pirate lifestyle, and there’s the legend of a treasure. That kicks off this whole adventure that the players can go on."
Players have to battle new enemies like sand worms, journey across the desert in new sand skiffs (think Star Wars: Return of the Jedi), and find new currency called Seraph Crystals. The new DLC is designed for all players regardless of completion level of the campaign, so you don't need to have beaten the base game to enjoy the content. Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty will cost $10 when it arrives on October 16. It's also the first of four DLC for the $29.99 Season Pass.
