AMD has announced a new accelerated processing unit, the dual-core Z-60, code-named Hondo. AMD is targeting this chip at mobile markets, specifically "hybrid PC-tablet devices," and it is also aimed at Windows 8. It is expected that there will be Hondo based Windows 8 tablets shortly after the late October launch of the new OS, while Intel will have its processors in tablets at the launch of Windows 8. The new APU will run at 1GHz, draw 4.5W of power, and includes 80 Radeon graphics cores. All of this will enable tablets to drive 1080p HD displays with up to 10 hours of battery life.
