Last month, zombie survival mod/game DayZ was said to be going standalone, and today we have some welcome news. Creator Dean Hall announced the standalone version of DayZ will arrive before the end of this year, most likely in December. Hall broke the news during the Eurogamer Expo, and said the standalone version is "going to be cheap." He elaborated the game has to be out by the end of this year because it needs to be, as seen below:
It has to be out before the end of the year. Not just because we've committed to it but in order to achieve what we have to do. It has to be. There's no 'we hope it is'; it has to be. And it's going to be cheap. We've decided that we don't need to sell a heap of units in order for us to be OK with where it's going. The more units we sell of it the more ambitious we get, because the project has the better resources.
DayZ's standalone version, which is an alpha build, will be out in December mostly to "stop clones," like The War Z and others. There's a lot of things Hall feels about all the copies, but he is committed to making an "awesome game" at an affordable price. More features and enhancements will arrive once the standalone releases, plus some main priorities are stopping hackers, optimizing the game, and squashing bugs. Hall has made many friends in the industry, from Valve to Notch and CCP Online that all have offered to help with the early code before DayZ's standalone version arrives. It certainly sounds like Hall knows what he wants to do with the game, however to get a better idea you can watch his Eurogamer Expo presentation below to get the best idea.
