PC gamers eager to get their hands on Firaxis Games' take on the XCOM franchise should be happy to hear the XCOM: Enemy Unknown demo has arrived on Steam. Console gamers will receive the demo "soon," most likely when the PlayStation Store and Xbox LIVE Marketplace update this week. The demo itself weighs in at a rather large 5.7GB and features two levels from the tutorial. This should hopefully be enough to convince people whether or not Firaxis has done the classic series justice, but judging by the fact the tier three pre-purchase reward is halfway unlocked, there has not been much of a need so far. Regardless, the demo will give gamers a taste of the laser-shooting, alien-killing, and fairly fragile (read: permadeath) squad members that make up an XCOM game.
There was an error when trying to download the demo earlier today, but that has been cleared up. XCOM: Enemy Unknown arrives in full on October 9.
